Elmes headed home from close range after Reece Dobson headed towards goal, but it deflected off an Ilford defender and Elmes was on hand to head home.
Mark Taylor doubled the lead when his cross come shot found the back of the net with Reece Dobson trying to connect with it at the back post.

HARLOW Town certainly made hard work of it as they wrapped up their Ryman division one north home campaign with a 3-2 win over mid-table Thamesmead Town on Saturday
The hosts went in front through Reece Dobson on 18 minutes. He hammered a brilliant shot into the top right corner from the left edge of the box. But the visitors were level after a great finish from Theo Fairweather-Johnson into the top left corner on 26 minutes following poor defending from Harlow left-back Michael Deane.
Two goals in six minutes before the break gave Harlow a commanding lead. A lovely ball from Ryan Maxwell split the Thamesmead defence as Danny Elmes chipped the keeper on 38 minutes. Elmes was on target again, making it three in two games since signing, on 42 minutes. Mark Taylor’s right-wing cross was headed in by Elmes from six yards after the striker rose above two defenders to nod in.

There was controversy on 52 minutes when Deane was punished for handball in the box and Ashley Probets fired in the spot-kick. This decision was extremely harsh. However, Harlow held on and could have added to their tally.

IF the Hawks can show the passion and desire they illustrated in Tuesday’s win over play-off hopefuls Redbridge during the rest of the season, there is certainly no reason why Danny Chapman’s men cannot go up this term. Harlow Town fought back from a goal down to grab a deserved win over their rivals and close the gap on the play-off places to four points. After back-to-back league defeats and the loss of three key players in a tumultuous week for Hawks heading into this game, the cynics had suggested this could be Chapman’s last game in charge – how wrong they were!
The Hawks came out fighting from the start only to suffer a huge blow when centre-half Ryan Kirby scored an own goal to gift the visitors the lead on 11 minutes. A long throw from Motormen right-back Billy Sendall – who was a thorn in Harlow’s side all night – was nodded up and over Hawks keeper Bertrand Bossu as the centre-half attempted to clear the danger. In a first half of few real chances, Ryan Maxwell’s great 25yd shot on 36 minutes was turned away superbly by Redbridge’s former Bishop’s Stortford keeper Joe Wright. At the other end, Matt Turpin put the ball in but this was deemed offside.
Harlow’s best move came minutes before the break as lovely play from Dave Cowley and the impressive Bertie Brayley ended with Jeff Hammond firing just over the bar. But two goals in five second-half minutes turned this game on its head. On 48 minutes, Cowley’s free-kick from the left was not cleared by the Redbridge defence and Luke Marshall stabbed low into the net. Five minutes later it was 2-1. Mark Taylor’s driving run into the box saw him cut back from the byline to Cowley and his shot was stopped on the line, but deflected off another hapless Redbridge defender and went in. Kilapi, Hammond and Cowley wasted great chances to put this game to bed.
The sight of influential midfielder Danny Brown as a late sub was also a welcome sight for Hawks fans. He has been out for two weeks with a rib injury. As time ticked on there was a tremendous save from Wright to turn away Hammond’s bicycle kick from 7 yards out on 88 minutes. Wright bettered this in injury-time. Cowley’s free-kick in stoppage time was heading in until the keeper’s stunning tip-over save. But these proved in vain as Harlow gained a well-deserved three points to reignite their play-off charge.
